ReBuild Ukraine 2024 in Warsaw: Paving the Way for a Green Energy Future Amid Reconstruction Efforts

On 13-14 November, the international exhibition and conference ReBuild Ukraine Construction and Energy took place in Warsaw, focusing on strategies to restore Ukraine’s war-affected economy, particularly in the infrastructure, energy, and residential sectors. The event brought together high-level representatives from Ukrainian and international authorities, industry leaders, and investors, all united in their efforts to rebuild Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

One of the highlights of the event was the panel discussion on hydrogen and biomethane projects, where Oleksandr Riepkin, Vice President and Member of the Board of the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council, discussed Ukraine’s potential role in the European Union’s green gas map. With its vast natural resources, proximity to Europe, and developed infrastructure, Ukraine has the capacity to become a significant player in the EU’s green energy supply chain, particularly in the production of renewable energy and hydrogen.

Ukraine boasts substantial resources for renewable energy, with significant potential for solar, onshore and offshore wind power. This renewable capacity forms the backbone of Ukraine’s ambitions for large-scale green hydrogen production.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing war, Ukraine’s energy sector remains resilient. The country continues to make strides in rebuilding and modernizing its energy infrastructure, with strong international collaboration, particularly with EU and UK partners, fostering feasibility studies and joint ventures aimed at securing a sustainable green energy future.

Ukraine is actively progressing with hydrogen projects, including the Odesa Hydrogen Valley and Zakarpattia Hydrogen Valley, implemented by Hydrogen Ukraine LLC, and the West Ukraine Hydrogen Project, led by UDP Renewables.

The Central European Hydrogen Corridor initiative, a collaboration between EUSTREAM (Slovakia), Ukraine’s GTS Operator, NET4GAS (Czech Republic), and OGE (Germany), further underscores Ukraine’s growing role in the regional hydrogen market. Additionally, the Hydrogen Project in Lviv region, part of a memorandum between Eco-Optima, GTS Operator of Ukraine, Ukrtransgaz, Naftogaz of Ukraine, and several European partners, aims to deploy renewable hydrogen as well.

The Ukrainian Hydrogen Council expresses its gratitude to the organizers and participants of the ReBuild Ukraine conference. As the country continues to develop its hydrogen strategy and projects, the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council remains open to further cooperation and joint efforts to advance Ukraine’s green energy sector.
