2nd annual Ukrainian Energy Transition Forum took place in London
On May 31, 2024, the 2nd Ukrainian Energy Transition Forum convened in London, successfully gathering key stakeholders to discuss the restoration and modernization of Ukraine's energy infrastructure. Hosted by the Strategy Council with support from the Embassy of Ukraine in the UK, the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council, and Advantage Ukraine, this event provided a vital platform for collaboration among Ukrainian government officials, energy companies, renewable energy developers, equipment suppliers, financiers, and international partners in crafting a cohesive action plan for Ukraine’s energy future.
The forum addressed the urgent need to rebuild Ukraine's energy system, which has faced relentless attacks from Russia. Despite these challenges, Ukraine has demonstrated remarkable resilience, thanks to the combined efforts of national and international communities.
In his keynote address, Oleksandr Riepkin, a board member of the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council, emphasized the imperative of leveraging cutting-edge global technologies for reconstructing and modernizing Ukraine's energy infrastructure. He stressed the importance of energy efficiency, sustainability, and attracting investment in renewable energy sources.
Oleksandr Riepkin underscored the pivotal role of hydrogen as a green fuel and the significance of renewable energy in shaping Ukraine’s future energy mix. Discussions at the forum centered on integrating Ukrainian energy markets with Europe and aligning Ukraine’s energy policies with EU climate goals.
Key discussions included scaling up hydrogen utilization and establishing the necessary infrastructure for its production, transportation, and consumption. The potential of repurposing existing natural gas infrastructure and the Central European Hydrogen Corridor as a critical link to European energy markets was also explored.
Furthermore, the forum delved into the prerequisites for attracting investments and new technologies to the energy sector. It assessed potential financing sources for energy reconstruction projects, taking into account the ongoing conflict and the feasibility of project implementation.
Representatives from various organizations participated in the event, including: DTEK, IP3 Corporation, NPC Ukrenergo, Elementum Energy (Ukraine), EBRD, SPP Development Ukraine, Goldbeck Solar Investment, Proventus Renewables, International Finance Corporation, EuroCape Ukraine, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and many more.
The event highlighted a collective commitment to ensuring that Ukraine’s energy sector not only survives but thrives, paving the way for a sustainable and energy-efficient future.
