Ukrainian Hydrogen Council Joins African Hydrogen Partnership
In a significant move towards a global alliance for a sustainable energy future, the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council (UHC) has officially united with the African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP), becoming the first member from Eastern Europe to join this prestigious union.
Dr Innocent Uwuijaren (AHP Director and Chairman) stated,
“We strongly believe in international alliances with organizations which we want to work with and we very much look forward to working with the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council and their members and partners and, indeed, we have collaborated with the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council in the past. Ukraine is a major exporter of agricultural products and raw materials like wheat and steel, and as such, Ukraine's economy depends on hard-to-abate sectors which cannot decarbonize without hydrogen. The economy of Ukraine shares many similarities, challenges and opportunities with economies in emerging markets, developing nations and countries in Africa. A cooperation between the African Hydrogen Partnership and the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council would enable regions to work together on similar projects and concentrate efforts on common tasks such as establishing green fertilizer plants for the agricultural sector."
Marie Espitalier-Noël (AHP Director and AHP Association Board Member) extended a warm welcome to the Ukrainian Hydrogen Council.
“This year, Ukraine has pledged to deepen links with African countries, through diplomatic missions and the
building of mutually beneficial economic partnerships. Clean hydrogen emerges as a pivotal link, connecting strategic collaboration opportunities between Ukraine and Africa. These encompass the production and trade of agricultural goods, fertilizers, the decarbonisation of local industries, and the facilitation of access to clean energy. Reinforcing the bond between the AHP and the UHC will provide a significant platform to tackle shared challenges and forge a path for the integration of clean hydrogen across diverse sectors, creating a more sustainable future for Ukraine, Africa, and beyond.”

The African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP) is the only continent-wide non-profit African umbrella association dedicated to the development of green and natural hydrogen, hydrogen-based chemicals, fuel cell technology and related business opportunities in Africa. It facilitates collaboration between governments, industry, technology and financial institutions and large-end consumers of hydrogen across regions with a focus on Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the Commonwealth. The Partnership campaigns and lobbies for green African hydrogen and makes compelling political propositions for the benefit to Africa and other continents of developing green hydrogen economies. The AHP is confident that green and natural African hydrogen will materially assist the world to decarbonise and assist in African hydrogen becoming a major component in the energy mix.
