Munich and Kyiv Join Forces Towards a "Green Future" at the Bavarian-Ukrainian Hydrogen Forum

Today, the Bavarian-Ukrainian online forum on "Hydrogen - the Energy of the Future" took place, aiming to deepen cooperation between Bavaria and Ukraine in the field of hydrogen and hydrogen technologies. The event brought together representatives from Bavarian companies and Ukrainian experts to discuss the economic and political situation in Ukraine and the potential for collaboration in hydrogen energy.

Oleksandr Diachenko, Vice President of the Energy Association "Ukrainian Hydrogen Council," emphasized Ukraine's readiness to become a hub for renewable energy and green hydrogen production. The project in the Odesa region has received certification from Mission Innovation and Clean Hydrogen Partnership as a global flagship Hydrogen Valley. However, he also pointed out logistics challenges related to infrastructure reorientation for hydrogen transportation and the need for standardization and coordination in this area.

Infrastructure for transporting hydrogen along the Danube River also requires modernization, and the "Central European Hydrogen Corridor" initiative calls for joint coordination among countries to ensure the reliability and safety of hydrogen transportation. The integration of the hydrogen transportation network in Ukraine with other countries in Eastern and Southeastern Europe under the "European Hydrogen Backbone" framework requires balanced planning and cooperation.

Considering Ukraine's natural resources and geographical location, proper legal regulation of the hydrogen sector could be a key factor in ensuring a sustainable energy future and promoting the country's economic growth. The forum has become a significant step in the cooperation between Ukraine and Bavaria in the field of hydrogen energy, contributing to the development of this crucial industry for both nations.

Iaroslav Kryl, CEO of Hydrogen Ukraine LLC, presented two key hydrogen projects in Ukraine. The creation of "Hydrogen Valleys" aims to make Ukraine a leader in the production and export of "green" hydrogen to Europe. Two hydrogen valleys located in the Zakarpattia and Odesa regions have received support for research and the opportunity to produce 220,000 tons of hydrogen per year using renewable energy sources. The projects are expected to commence production in 2027 and supply hydrogen through the European hydrogen infrastructure.
