Unlocking Global Potential: Ukraine's Strategic Role in Green Hydrogen Production
In a world rapidly transitioning to sustainable energy solutions, green hydrogen and its derivatives—ammonia, methanol, and synthetic kerosene—stand as pivotal energy carriers. These climate-neutral alternatives have the power to efficiently harness and transfer energy from renewable sources, particularly from distant regions to Europe. Importantly, they are poised to replace fossil fuels in industries that cannot directly utilize electricity as an energy source.

A recent study by the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE and H2Global Foundation has examined 39 regions in 12 countries to determine where the production of such Power-to-X (PtX) products, in conjunction with transport to Germany, would be most cost-effective by 2030.

The study's techno-economic insights stem from exhaustive analyses of each country's renewable energy generation capabilities. Subsequently, regions showing promise were subjected to further evaluation regarding green hydrogen and derivative production.
A pivotal message emerging from this research underscores the importance of balancing domestic needs with future export capabilities in the countries destined to be green energy exporters. The establishment of hydrogen generation and export infrastructure must be executed in close coordination and collaboration with local stakeholders.
Key Conclusion:
• Brazil, Colombia, and Australia emerge as beacons of potential in green ammonia, methanol, and kerosene production. Southern Europe and North Africa are likewise identified as promising regions for gaseous green hydrogen.
