The second webinar in the series "Development of the hydrogen economy in Ukraine" took place

Yesterday, October 21, the second webinar in the series "Development of the hydrogen economy in Ukraine" was held and was dedicated to the discussion of the investment climate of hydrogen projects.



Yuriy Tashcheev, a senior researcher at the Institute of Renewable Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, told the participants about the role of hydrogen in the transition to a new energy model, forecast the cost of hydrogen and gave examples of hydrogen projects in the world.



According to him, pursuant to the forecasts, by 2025 the global hydrogen production market will reach $ 201 billion compared to $ 130 billion in 2020, with an average annual growth rate of 9.2% over the forecast period. In addition, Mr. Tashcheev noted that in 2020 the global market for "green" hydrogen was estimated at $ 0.3 billion, and is projected to reach $ 9.8 billion by 2028, and from 2021 to 2028 will grow at an average annual rate of 54,7%.

"If we talk about the establishment of the Ukrainian market of "green" hydrogen, then its development should take place simultaneously in two directions - export (production and sale of hydrogen in the EU) and production of "green" hydrogen for domestic consumption".

The webinar was also attended by Iaroslav Kryl head of the energy company "Hydrogen of Ukraine", which is a member of the Energy Association "Ukrainian Hydrogen Council" and company deals with the implementation of the pilot project to build a hydrogen plant in the south of Odessa region. The main goal of the project is to create an energy cluster focused on the production of electricity from rewenable energy, the production of "green" hydrogen and its export to the EU.



Maksym Sysoiev, a partner at Dentons' Kyiv office, spoke about the legal aspects of hydrogen projects. In particular, Mr. Maxim told about the main possible options for the sale of hydrogen, as well as the necessary permits and contracts for the production of "green" hydrogen from wind power plant and solar power plant, construction and operation of the cell, verification and sale of "green" hydrogen.

Maryna Hritsyshyna, Head of Energy Practice at Sayenko Kharenko Law Firm, spoke about the legal regulation of hydrogen production in Germany and Ukraine as a prerequisite for an energy partnership.

Ms. Marina noted that according to surveys among German and Ukrainian companies, the main barrier to an energy partnership on green hydrogen is the lack of legal regulation in Ukraine.
