Oleksandr Riepkin met with First Secretary for Energy Policy at the British Embassy Peter Wickenden

During the meeting, President of the Energy Association “Ukrainian Hydrogen Council” Oleksandr Riepkin and First Secretary for Energy Policy at the British Embassy Peter Wickenden discussed prospects for deepening bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom in the field of energy, including hydrogen, involving the private sector in the development of hydrogen technologies and the possibility of organizing and joint participating in forums, conferences, seminars and other public events.

Peter Wickenden also assured of the systematic and unwavering support of the United Kingdom for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, energy independence and security of Ukraine.

It should be noted that the UK has high hopes for hydrogen and is actively working on the introduction of hydrogen technologies in the country. On August 17, the British government published a national hydrogen strategy. The main idea of the Strategy is to create by 2030 the preconditions for the low-carbon hydrogen production with a capacity of at least 5 GW. By 2050, up to 35% of Britain's energy needs must be supplied by hydrogen.

Bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the United Kingdom is constantly growing as regards, in particular, attracting investment to Ukraine, the amount of which is about $ 2 billion. This was achieved, first of all, thanks to the Political, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and Ukraine, which was signed in October last year by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson.
