Colombia is set to accelerate its decarbonisation efforts with the release of a hydrogen blueprint.
Within this proposed strategy, published by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, identifies five key pillars, which include hydrogen as a key piece within the national decarbonisation strategy, the development of the hydrogen value chain as a path towards a low emissions export economy, and hydrogen as an enabler of a just energy transition.
Colombia also has set targets that the country wishes to achieve by 2030 with a desire to achieve green hydrogen costs of $1.7/kg and production of 50 kT of blue hydrogen through the construction of new plants and carbon capture and storage (CCS).

Spain-based global energy company Repsol and Talgo, a manufacturer of intercity, standard, and high speed passenger trains, will promote a renewable-hydrogen-powered train, fostering emission-free rail transport in the Iberian Peninsula.
This collaboration will promote the achievement of one of the objectives set in the Hydrogen Roadmap approved by the Spanish Government last October: to have two lines of hydrogen-powered commercial trains by 2030.

Europe's biggest utility Enel has agreed to work with Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri to find ways to use green hydrogen in ports and long-range sea transport.
Fincantieri and Enel Green Power Italia will in particular study the supply of green hydrogen to naval, submarine and surface vessels and industrial users in port areas and look into storage systems.
Enel’s Eugenio Montale power plant in the town of La Spezia in Italy's Liguria region will be used as an initial test site.

The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) has provided €10.9m ($12.96m) in funding to support Air Liquide’s construction of a new 20MW electrolyser for green hydrogen production.
The project will see a new PEM electrolyser integrated into the existing local pipeline infrastructure of Air Liquide. Green hydrogen is expected to be used in the refinery, steel and chemical industries.
This project, dubbed Trailblazer, has become the first hydrogen project in Germany to be funded within the framework of the national hydrogen strategy (NWS) with funds from the economic stimulus package.

The global capacity for hydrogen production from renewable energy or natural gas with carbon capture could reach 14 million tons per year by 2030, an increase of 20 times current levels.
In its latest report, “Hydrogen Transition Outlook and Trends – Q3 2021,” GlobalData said that potential production could increase even further, to 20 mtpa, if all projects in the pipeline come to fruition.
Of this capacity, about 85% is from “green" hydrogen. The remaining 15% is from “blue" hydrogen projects.
