SSE Renewables and Siemens Gamesa have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore the opportunity to produce and deliver green hydrogen through electrolysis using energy from two onshore wind farms in Scotland and Ireland.
The partnership aims to encompass the full green hydrogen value chain, including construction, supply chain management, customer offtake and storage, end-user requirements, reliability and operation and maintenance.
The two companies said they will also aim to work with green hydrogen customers across a range of industries including transportation, major distilleries and gas network operators.

MAN Energy Solutions and ANDRITZ Hydro plan to launch Europe’s first pilot project producing green hydrogen from hydropower.
The companies are aiming to launch an initial joint pilot project before the end of this year to provide about 650 tons of green hydrogen by using an electrolysis output of up to 4 MW. Initially, the hydrogen will be for local use, but in follow-up projects in the coming years, designed for the export of hydrogen, the installed electrolysis output is expected to increase to up to 100 MW.

Japan plans to build its biggest hydrogen plant which will be powered by offshore wind energy.
The plant will be located in northern island of Hokkaido and is part of Japan’s initiative for decarbonisation. It is expected to be operational in 2024 with a capacity to generate 550 tonnes of hydrogen per year equivalent to fuel need of over 10,000 hydrogen-powered cars.

Alpiq, EW Höfe and SOCAR Energy Switzerland are set to build a new 10MW electrolysis plant in Freienbach, Switzerland, that will produce 1,000 to 1,200 tonnes of green hydrogen annually.
Expected to go into operation from the end of 2022, the plant will provide green hydrogen for zero emission mobility.
The hydrogen production plant will also transport the clean gas through a pipeline to the neighbouring Fuchsberg motorway service station with SOCAR set to build hydrogen filling stations in both directions.
