The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $52.5 million to fund 31 projects to advance next-generation clean hydrogen technologies and support DOE’s recently announced Hydrogen Energy Earth shot initiative to reduce the cost and accelerate breakthroughs in the clean hydrogen sector.
These 31 projects will focus on bridging technical gaps in hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and utilization technologies, including fuel cells, thereby paving the way toward decarbonization of the electricity sector by 2035 and the creation of good-paying jobs across the hydrogen sector.

British Columbia is Canada's first province to introduce a business and environmental strategy on how renewable and low-carbon hydrogen can reduce emissions and create jobs in the clean technology sector.
The B.C. hydrogen strategy outlines 63 actions for government, industry, and innovators to aim at accelerating the production, use, and export of renewable and low carbon hydrogen.
The short-term goals include establishing regional hydrogen hubs to supply fuel to industries and consumers while increasing the numbers of medium and heavy-duty vehicles powered by hydrogen on highways and at industrial sites.

Italy's defense group Leonardo and gas operator Snam had signed a memorandum of understanding to develop technology for innovation and safety in the hydrogen sector, key in Europe's decarbonization strategy.
The three-year agreement aims at developing advanced systems to monitor and defend critical infrastructure and envisages that the joint solutions may also be applied to other international players in the large energy networks sector.

Shell has started operations to produce green hydrogen at what it said is the largest PEM hydrogen electrolyzer in Europe. 
Shell said plans are underway to expand the capacity of the electrolyzer from 10MW to 100MW at the Rheinland site, near Cologne.
The Rheinland electrolyzer will use renewable electricity to produce up to 1300 tonnes of green hydrogen a year.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) launched the Global Partnership for Hydrogen Application in Industry to promote its application at the global level as an innovative technology critical to decarbonizing industry, especially in hard-to-abate sectors.
The Partnership is a key pillar of the UNIDO Global Programme for Green Hydrogen in Industry that will bring together key stakeholders to inspire strategic dialogue; create synergies, and boost concrete technical action and cooperation for industrial decarbonization. Furthermore, the Partnership will enhance the exchange, development, and distribution of knowledge on related policies, technical guidelines, and standards.
