The German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) has launched a new funding platform for hydrogen projects called the H2Global Foundation.
Through the foundation, green hydrogen or derivatives are purchased abroad with long-term contracts and resold in Germany via annual auctions.
The award procedure for the derivatives from green hydrogen will start this year (2021) with the delivery of hydrogen products expected from 2024.
The BMWi is supporting the foundation with around €900m ($1,090m) in order to compensate for the difference between the purchase price of the hydrogen derivatives and domestic sales price for a limited period of times, creating an incentive for the market ramp-up.

Hydrogen Fuels Australia is partnering with European companies to launch what is claimed to be Australia’s first modular hydrogen production and integrated fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) refueling facility.
The facility will be built in Truganina, near Laverton in Victoria on a 5-hectare piece of land and will be capable of producing 60-90kgs of green hydrogen from its own 750kw solar array once operational in February 2022. With time, the site will be scaled up to supply approximately 3,000kg with the capacity to fuel 100+ vehicles per day. Rainwater will be used for the electrolysis process.

Portugal's Galp Energia plans to install a 100-megawatt electrolyzer to power its refinery in Sines with green hydrogen by 2025, a project which could be expanded to up to 1,000 MW and be worth 1 billion euros ($1.21 billion).
Galp will be able to produce green ammonia or synthetic fuels, and as the project gains scale it could also sell green hydrogen to transport companies or highly polluting industries such as steel or cement manufacturing.

The Norwegian government unveiled a hydrogen roadmap that sees an established market for hydrogen production and use in the country by 2050.
In a shorter time horizon, the government will look to set up hydrogen hubs and bolster hydrogen research. In partnership with the private sector, it will aim to facilitate the creation of five hydrogen hubs for maritime transport by 2025, as well as one or two industrial projects with associated production facilities. It will also pursue the establishment of five to ten pilot projects for the development and demonstration of new, more cost-effective hydrogen solutions and technologies.
The roadmap is part of the government’s Putting Energy to Work white paper and a follow-up of its hydrogen strategy launched in June 2020.

Landsvirkjun - the national power company of Iceland – and port authorities in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, have completed a preliminary review of the possibility of exporting green hydrogen.
The goal is for a detailed description of the intentions of Landsvirkjun and Rotterdam port authorities to be ready during the second half of next year. The parties believe they can realistically expect green hydrogen to be exported from Iceland to Rotterdam by 2030.
According to information from Landsvirkjun, the preliminary review reveals that the project could start during the second half of this decade and that its scope would be between two and four TWh (or 200-500 MW).

Engineering, procurement, and construction services provider Worley has been appointed by energy company EI-H2 to help develop Ireland’s first commercial scale green hydrogen production facility.
The 50 MW plant will be located in Aghada, close to lower Cork harbour and will see green hydrogen produced by electrolysis, powered by renewable energy. Once operational, the facility will supply over 20 tonnes of green hydrogen per day to a diverse commercial market and will remove 63,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually.
The project, once complete, will be one of the largest green energy facilities of its kind in the world. It will generate job creation in the local area and will assist in meeting the targets of Ireland’s recent Climate Bill which mandates emissions reductions of 51 per cent by 2030.
